Study Archaeology
Oxford University's Department for Continuing Education offers the UK's widest range of part-time study opportunities in Archaeology, which are suitable for all levels and interests. All are welcome.
East Oxford volunteers are already learning about the practical side of Archaeology in our city. This can be combined with academic study, looking at the history of Archaeology, landscapes, material culture, and human development across the ages.
The Department's courses include:
- Weekly classes
- Normally 10 week courses (2 hours teaching per week) on a particular theme. These can form part of the Certificate in Higher Education.
- Online and weekend study courses
- We run online and weekend study courses, including practical day schools and conferences.
- Certificate and Diploma courses
- We also run Certificate and Diploma courses in Archaeology (each is 2 years, meeting once per week normally for 2 hours, providing a detailed introduction and exploration of Archaeology at undergraduate level).
- Postgraduate level
- At postgraduate level, for which you must either already be a graduate or have completed the Diploma course, we run a Postgraduate Certificate, a Masters (M.Sc) in Applied Landscape Archaeology, and a part-time doctoral programme (D.Phil).
- Professional Training
- In addition there is a Professional Training Programme in the Historic Environment, in partnership with English Heritage.
